Mum, 38, with no business experience makes $150,000 in just NINE months selling DIY face-shaving blades for women - all while working full time

An Australian mum with no previous business experience has made more than $150,000 in less than nine months selling at home biodegradable dermaplaning blades.

Ali Clarke, from Melbourne, launched Bondi Blades in May 2020 after noticing a gap in the Australian market for dermaplaning blades that can be used at home.

Six months prior in late 2019, Ali was a regular client at her local beauty salon and admitted to spending up to $150 per facial.

'After one appointment I had a lightbulb moment and started researching how dermaplaning can be done at home to save money,' the 38-year-old told FEMAIL.

Dermaplaning is a type of facial treatment that helps exfoliate the skin by using a small but safe medical-grade blade.

Ali said starting the business has been an exciting experience and popular platform TikTok has contributed to the brand's growing success, as several videos have gone viral.

Six months before launching in May 2020, Ali conducted extensive research and found a suitable manufacturer to develop her product.

Due to her limited business knowledge, Ali watched countless hours of YouTube videos, read articles and asked friends for advice in order to understand how to start and run a business.

'I consider myself to be an underdog in business, because I've worked in finance for the last 21 years and it's all I've known,' Ali said.

'I definitely had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it was an exciting process.'

Ali still currently works full-time in finance and runs the business alongside her job with help from her husband, all while taking care of their 18-month-old baby.

Dermaplaning offers a range of benefits including the removal of dead skin cells and small microfibre hairs that can often trap unwanted dirt inside pores.

The safe treatment will also allow the skin to absorb skincare products more efficiently, resulting in a brighter looking complexion.

'It helps remove the tiny 'peach fluff' hairs on your face and allows makeup to look flawless as a result,' Ali said.

When using dermaplaning blades, it's essential to slide the blade away from the face at a 45-degree angle.

As a selection of the Bondi Blades products are made from biodegradable materials, customers can use the products knowing they aren't harming the environment.

What is it?

Dermaplaning uses a small medical-grade surgical blade to remove dead skin and hair from the surface of the face

The blade gently glides along the skin in a 45-degree angle away from the face and is able to remove up to three weeks worth of buildup

It's a pain-free and non-invasive process

What are the benefits?

Dermaplaning effectively provides a safe and effective exfoliation, resulting in smoother skin

As it removes dead cells, the skin is able to absorb skincare products more efficiently

The treatment also works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt and oils

As a result, the face will look brighter and makeup will look more flawless
